LAO RA JESUS MADE ME BAD

Colombia's influence in the modern pop sphere just got a little stronger with the emergence of new vocalist Lao Ra. Following in the footsteps of Bogota-born Tei Shi, Lao Ra steps out on the rebellious 'Jesus Made Me Bad', a sunny, hook-laden two-fingered salute to her Catholic upbringing. With touchstones ranging from the obvious, M.I.A. in the punky, laidback delivery of the verses which melt into swampy steel drums to the more oblique, UK newcomer Georgia, whom Lao Ra shares a love of skewed, strobing synth melodies with; 'Jesus Made Me Bad' has all the achingly cool hallmarks of a track that will catapult Lao Ra right into the heart of the underground-pop conscious. - DC
